Case Study

Casing Protection in Two Re-Entry Directional Wells

Casing Wear Concern
Well A:
Casing logs revealed severe ovality in the 18-5/8” casing which led the customer to consider using WWT Non-Rotating Protectors (NRPs) to protect the casing while drilling the 17-1/2” section.

Well B:
Logs also showed existing wear on in the 13-3/8” casing and NRPs were used while drilling the 12” section.

Operations & Results
Well A:
WWT recommended using SS3-658 to protect the 18-5/8” casing while milling the window and drilling the 17-1/2” section. Three sidetracks were performed on this well due to stuck pipe. NRPs were used for 30 days of operations, protecting the casing from over 1.3M revs and over 2,850m of drilling.

Well B:
SS3-658 NRPs were used to protect the 13 3/8” casing while milling the window and drilling the 12” section.
A total of 1,380m was drilled and NRPs helped protect the area of concern in the casing for approximately 440k revs.
