WWT Permian: Slider-Clamps Shield ESP Cables in Horizontals
Protecting ESP Cable and Capillary Tube
WWT Slider-Clamp Cable Protectors were utilised to protect both the ESP cable and capillary tube (CT). The Slider-Clamps were used on four wells where side forces exceeded 15,000 lbf/joint at ESP landing depth. The wells were Permian horizontal wells, with the ESP set at the top of the curve at approximately 8,500 ft MD. The completion used 2-7/8” pipe with #2 flat cable and 1/4” capillary tube.
Slider-Clamp Specifications
WWT utilised standard blue SP-model Slider-Clamps, as well as high-temperature DP-model Slider-Clamps, installed at a frequency of one per joint. These were run from 1,500 ft MD to just above the motor lead extension (MLE). Approximately 200 Slider-Clamps were used per well.
Slider-Clamp Ease of Installation
The WWT Slider-Clamps were easily installed using standard 3/4” banding. Clamps were located approximately 12” below each coupling, stretched around the pipe and cable, and banded according to standard rig procedures. Two additional bands were applied on each joint for redundancy.
Slider-Clamp Installation Time
Feedback from banding and rig crews indicated that the WWT Slider-Clamps were easier and faster to install than many other protectors on the market. Installation of each Slider-Clamp and bands took approximately 25 seconds per clamp.
