WWT NRPs Reduce Torque in Offshore ERD Well
Summary
An operator drilling a series of offshore ERD wells used WWT’s Non-Rotating Protectors (NRPs) to reduce torque while drilling the 8-1/2”x9-1/2” section.
NRPs covered the build and into the tangent where side forces were highest. The section was drilled in 1 run from 5,800–9,247mMD.
NRP Performance
Results showed that the torque reduction started as NRPs entered the build section. The addition of lubricants had little to no effect.
Simulations expected torque to reach 81kNm without NRPs at TD, and 64kNm with NRPs. Actual values showed torque stabilizing around 55kNm which corresponds to a 32% reduction.
