WWT NRPs Reduce Casing Wear and Torque in North Sea Directional Well

Background

An operator requested the use of WWT NRPs to reduce the torque while drilling the 12-1/4” section, running the 9-7/8” liner, and drilling the 8-1/2” section of an offshore directional well. 282 x SS3-578 NRPs were installed to cover the areas of highest side forces in the top build sectionfrom300to1,620mMD atafrequencyof2perjoint.

NRP Performance

All three sections were successfully completed with NRPs coming back in very good condition. Back models show that NRPs helped reduce torque by up to18%. Casingwear logs were performed in between sections to evaluate the condition of the 14” casing. Results show low wear in NRP coverage area.

WWT simulations were able to closely predict casing wear especially at the deeper side track point.
