WWT NRPs Protect CRA Casing and Reduce Torque in Geothermal Well

An operator needed to protect the Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA)production liner while drilling the 8-1/2” section. 147 x SS3-500 model Non-Rotating Protectors (NRPs) were used to gradually cover the entire liner at TD. NRPs operated in total losses with aerated water being pumped down the annulus to maintain the fluid column.

NRP Performance

Backmodels show that torque was reduced by 16% at TD. All NRPs came back in good condition and OD in gauge, indicating that the standoff between protected DP and the liner was maintained for over 700k drill pipe revs
